The Grand Strand's warm season is long, which means your wool suits, cashmere sweaters, and heavy coats are going to sit in storage for a while. How you store them now determines how they look — and smell — when October arrives.
Clean before you store. This is the most important step most people skip. Oils, perspiration, and invisible stains oxidize over time and become permanent. Dry clean or launder everything before it goes into storage, even if it looks clean.
Use breathable garment bags. Plastic bags trap moisture and can cause mildew. Use cotton or fabric garment bags for suits, coats, and formal pieces. Cedar blocks or sachets help repel moths without chemicals.
Fold knitwear, hang structured pieces. Heavy sweaters and knitwear should be folded — hanging stretches them out of shape. Suits, blazers, and coats should hang on proper wooden or padded hangers to maintain their structure.
Control the environment. Store in a cool, dry, dark space. Avoid attics (too hot) and basements (too damp). A climate-controlled closet is ideal.
Have pieces that need professional attention before you pack them away? Schedule a pickup — we'll take care of it.
